BMW fault 2DDB - No message from IHKA

2DDB is logged by the DME when it stops receiving valid CAN messages from the IHKA (automatic heating and air conditioning) module. The IHKA tells the DME about heat-flow demand and air-conditioning compressor requirements so the engine management can adjust idle speed and torque reserves. This is typically a low-severity communication fault. The detection window is generous (approximately 3 to 5 seconds) because climate-related messages are less time-critical.
The DME expects cyclic messages from IHKA reporting climate-system demand (heat-flow requirement, A/C compressor engagement request). After approximately 3 to 5 seconds without these messages, this code sets. The DME assumes default values and continues operating, so driveability impact is minimal.

- Inspect the IHKA module and control panel for water damage, especially on vehicles with water leak issues where moisture can reach the dashboard area. Read IHKA fault memory if it is online: internal sensor or actuator faults may explain the missing transmissions.
Resolution
Replace the fuse, repair the wiring, or replace a failed IHKA module as identified. For IHKA module replacement, code the new module via ISTA after installation. Clear fault memory on DME and IHKA after repair and verify climate control behavior across heating, cooling, and defrost modes.
